Locomotives Dimensions - MLW M-420

In 2015 and 2017, I took ground-level measurements of SLQ (nee CN) M-420 #3569 preserved at Exporail. The dimensions apply to late CN M-420's (CN 3530-3579).

Notes:

• The hood door spacing (unlisted) was derived from a combination of photos, MLW M-636 measurements, and measurements of the M-420 cab and hood end locations.
• Air reservoir height varied by 0.25" to 0.5" between the two air reservoirs; I used an average for both.
• The handrail stanchion spacing and much of the central hood details are the same on both sides.
• M-420R's and BCOL M-420's had a smaller fuel tank; early CN M-420's had a larger fuel tank.
