Locomotives Dimensions - EMD SD40A

The dimensions I used in my SD40A drawings came from an EMD SD40A general arrangement diagram, as well as from diagrams of the SDP45 and SD45 (both of which I had drawn previously). Dimensions are rounded to the nearest quarter-inch since that's the finest increment I can make in the drawings.

Relative to the trucks and pilots, the cab and rear hood section are in the same place as on the SD40. The extra 5 feet of frame length were added in between: 15" between the inertial air intake and engine compartment (with the blower duct moved 15" rearward); and 45" ahead of the radiator intakes. A standard SD40 dynamic brake hatch was used, with a 45" rearward extension welded on.
